You get hit by a car turning into/out of a driveway/side-road. Everyone says it's your fault for not obeying the law and/or riding on the road. Or not riding on the road.
Or not wearing a safety gear. Or not being visible enough. Or not being fast enough. Or not being slow enough. Or not being close to the curb. Or being too far off the curb. Take your pick. (If you were driving you'd be given a pass for any infractions you do, but just because you happen to ride or so much as hold/walk a bike, you're automatically assumed to be guilty of something when things do go wrong.)
Bad luck. Happens to everyone. Keep riding on the sidewalk.
Start obeying all laws and ride on the road. (Gee, you also wonder if the blame-shifting is equally bad even if you follow all laws?)
Stop cycling and start driving. Public safety is a personal responsibility anyway, so buy the biggest truck or SUV to ensure your safety over everyone else's!
